Back Ground

I am Finn Shortman, founder and CEO of the 'Compassion Crew'. I am twenty three years of age, a father to a beautiful little girl and a family man through and through. Although young I have always considered myself a motivated person and have been working for myself in various industries since I graduated high school at eighteen.

Working in the disability sector is something I never thought I would be so passionate about, it is a line of work I sort of 'fell into' accidentally while working as a personal trainer with participants in the gym. One of my clients asked me to be their support worker and I've never looked back since. I have made real friendships with the people I work with and at times genuinely feel apart of their family, enabling someone to live their life without limits has been one of the most rewarding things I have done! It became clear to me very quickly that the experience I’ve had with my participants is unfortunately not the norm, in fact the horror stories I have come across consistently from many participants throughout the years has inspired me to do something about it and try make a real difference, thus 'Compassion Crew' was born! My dream is to provide; independent, consistent, reliable and safe support to as many participants as possible with an emphasis on participant choice and control! I truly believe that the 'Compassion Crew' can provide the "best of both worlds" from independent and agency managed support without the negatives. I'm not promising a flawless service, although I am promising a service run independently, full heartedly and by someone who truly wants to make a difference!

Plans for the future

The prospect of starting the 'Compassion Crew' has filled me with more passion and motivation than I've ever experienced in my life! (excluding the birth of my daughter). I have some HUGE plans for this space, so here's a list of a few:

  • Disability related educational courses and one on one tutoring with a disability specific educator.
  • Workplace ready pathways and programs, gearing our participants with the tools and confidence to enter the workforce to obtain purposeful occupations.
  • Bi monthly group events for those who are interested. Camping trips, booking out movie theatres, nights out on the city (for our of age participants and family members)
  • Educational seminars for participants and families, covering topics of SDA, AAT appeals, NDIS relevant pathways. The list for this is truly endless!

These are only some of the idea's I have brainstormed for the future of the 'Compassion Crew'. I am also ALWAYS wanting feedback positive and more importantly negative, the 'Compassion Crew' will forever be trying to improve the value of service we provide to participants.
